FOUND CLAY
Discovering natural clay in London, in huge piles next to roadworks, was a turning in
point in Adele’s relationship with an extraordinary material that had until that time she
had only experienced arriving in neat 12.5kg bags. With curiosity inspired, collections
have been made around the world, from a Mediterranean archaeological temple dig,
to the beaches of the Isle of White, from the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, to the
clay rich soil bound to potatoes imported from Cyprus. Clay binds within it the
wonderful stories of its environments. Adele’s creations begin with the joy of
discovery and are enriched through patient study of the quality and history of the
material. To conclude, matter and master collaborate to realise the finished article.
The provenance of every creation is documented and a certificate of origin can be
provided for every piece on request.
