NATURAL GLAZES
Glaze chemistry can seem an unfathomably large topic, based maths and equations
that seem separated from the visual effects of glaze over clay. It was a course with
Miranda Forrest on the inclusion of natural materials in glazes, that provided Adele
with a gateway into her fluid approach to testing and trialling material combinations.
Her work with glazes has opened up with the development of an equally creative and
structured approach. A full circle journey that begins with gathering plants to burn for
ashes, found clays, sand, volcanic ash, chalk, and even egg shells that are
combined in endless test to give face to the chemical components in glazes, ending
with careful selection of a few glazes that embody the journey dust to glass.
